Getting Started: How To Find Law Society Discipline Decisions

Research Tips

  • Search for discipline decisions by subjects or keywords (such as headings or terms from the relevant Rule of Professional Conduct or Paralegal Rule of Conduct), rather than the Professional Conduct rule number.  Rule numbers are often not mentioned in the decisions. As well, rule numbers have changed over the years.

  • The best sources for keyword searching in discipline decisions are Lexis+™ Canada and CanLII.

  • For appeals of Law Society discipline decisions, search court cases on Lexis Advance Quicklaw, WestlawNext Canada or CanLII. Appeals from the Law Society Tribunal, Appeal Division and previously the Appeal Panel, lie to the Ontario Divisional Court.
