On The Web: Where to Find Canadian Case Law

Supreme Court of Canada

The Supreme Court of Canada, through a collaborative effort with Lexum informatique juridique, provides access to a searchable database of all judgments of the Supreme Court of Canada since 1907 and judgments in leave applications since 2006. It also includes many decisions delivered before 1907 and all decisions originating from Ontario and British Columbia back to 1876.

Supreme Court Reports (S.C.R.) from 1970 to date are available in both English and French. Decisions published prior to 1970 are provided in the language of publication only. Recent decisions are loaded onto the site the day they are released.

News releases are available from 1997 to date and weekly bulletins from 1994 to date. Users can subscribe to the mailing list to be informed of new decisions and news.

The Act and Rules of the Supreme Court of Canada, a searchable case information database (including appeal factums filed on or after February 9, 2009) as well as webcasts of appeal hearings are available on the official court website.
