Research 101: How to Use InfoLocate

Search, find and discover in InfoLocate, our library catalogue.

What is a Search Scope?

Search Scopes are useful search strategies that can make most searches more specific. The following search scopes are available in InfoLocate:

Search Scopes

The "Books and More" search scope searches everything in the Great Library and Ontario County and District Law Association Libraries. This includes:

  • Books, journals and other print materials
  • e-books and e-journals
  • Online LSO CPD articles
  • Websites

Use this search scope when you want to see a broad range of resources for your search topic.

The "Electronic Only" search scope searches the online electronic resources such as:

  • e-Books and e-journals owned by the library or available through databases
  • Online Law Society CLE articles from AccessCLE
  • Websites

This search scope is an incredibly handy tool for keeping all the physical items out of your results. Please note Law Society of Ontario licensees, their agents, and licensing candidates only posses remote access to HeinOnline, and Canadian Online. Most other databases (like Lexis Advance Quicklaw and Westlaw Canada) must be accessed while in-library.

The "All Libraries" search scope:

Limits your search to a particular library (Great Library, Ontario County and District Law Association Libraries or AccessCLE)

Allows you to select All Library Locations (the default setting is All Library Locations).
